GEDSER - 6th November

Much pleasanter through the morning with wind quickly dying off and it stayed dry; the nets were quiet first thing but picked up late morning when the standardized was over and I could put Redpoll playback on the speakers resulting in 80 new birds through the day including 42 Lesser Redpolls, 13 Mealy Redpolls and another big female Northern Bullfinch.   The day would have been even more productive if it wasn`t for the long spell of `ghost` rain at lunchtime which didn`t appear on the forecast or the weather radar!

There were a few bits overhead highlighted by a Shorelark which flew high to the west early morning along with a handful of Chaffinches, Bramblings, Siskins and Greenfinches, better numbers of Redpolls whizzing around, 5 Whooper Swans (a three and a two), 2 Tundra Bean Geese and presumably the same three Red Kites while a single first winter Little Gull and 2 Scaup fed just offshore.

More persistent (and forecasted!) rain moved in through the afternoon so I didn`t really see much more with 5,000+ Barnacle Geese floating round the fields and a flock of 28 Grey Plovers in a field to the north of Gedser – don`t really often see big flocks of Grey Plovers feeding in fields like Golden Plover away from the coast.
