GEDSER - 12th November

A gorgeous, sunny, clear, calm winter’s day with a bit more around than of late; the nets only produced 27 new birds including a Woodcock caught a dawn and another 3 Northern Bullfinches (the male was a big brute but the two females were smaller than the birds during last week’s influx).   There were a few bits overhead during the first few hours of the day (after which it became very quiet) with several Waxwing flocks seen and heard, a few Finches including Redpolls, Greenfinches, Siskins and Bramblings, a handful of Meadow Pipits, Yellowhammers and Reed Buntings and a couple of big Jackdaw flocks wandering over from the town while c1,000 Barnacle Geese fed in the surrounding fields.

Took a spur-of-the-moment drive north to Haslev in southern Sjælland to a random little patch of woodland where we had awesome views of a stunning HAWK OWL hunting from and flying between the broken off Pine tree trunks in a clearing just off the road – there was nothing really special about the site, they could turn up anywhere!
