Calm again first thing with the wind increasing through the day; it was a quiet morning with only a handful of birds heading south which included 12 Brent Geese, 3 Wigeon, 6 Sandwich Terns, a Heron and 3 Little Egrets whilst other birds of note comprised a Jay which flew down to the point and left high to the NW (finally caught up with one for my Landguard list after missing a few!), a Rock Pipit, 5 Wheatears and 2 Black Redstarts including a fine, adult male singing on the fort – possibly this year’s breeding male finally moulted into adult finery and becoming more obvious.
There was an increase in ducks on Loompit in the afternoon including 71 Shoveler, 56 Tufted Duck and 2 Pintail along with an excellent 34 Little Grebes (maybe the most I’ve seen anywhere together!) and a Kingfisher before a little seawatch in the evening produced the day’s highlight of a Grey Phalarope which flew slowly south at 17:05.
