A quiet, average kind of day with largely overcast
conditions, the odd spot of rain and a lightish NW breeze; there wasn’t’ too
much to mention with perhaps the best moment of the day coming late afternoon
when a large portion of the 600+ Turnstone in the Bewan / Lighthouse area, all
started to call to each other and frantically preen before spiralling high into
the sky and begin to purposefully head off north still all calling to each
other – a magic migration moment!
Other
birds through the day included 4 Manx Shearwaters past the north end, a drake
Garganey, 149 Ringed Plover, 67 Knot, 259 Sanderling, a Whimbrel, 754
Turnstone, a Collared Dove, 2 Grey Wagtails – Brides and Nouster (the first
ones since early April), 2 Lesser Whitethroat, a Garden Warbler, 3 Blackcaps, 2
Chiffchaffs, a Spotted Flycatcher and the 2 Tree Sparrows still.
