The freezing conditions
across the island remained with fields and lochs still solid; had a few hours
up at the north end in the morning but the sea was pretty quiet, highlighted by
a Black-throated Diver which flew past the seawatch hide along with 3 Great-northern
and 3 Red-throated Divers. Bewan was
frozen so the ducks including 12 Goldeneye and the Smew were
on the sea off Scottigar feeding in the surf with good numbers of Gulls,
waders, Starlings, Wigeon and Eiders.

This extremely dark Herring Gull caught the eye
Common Gulls - they included a couple of these really dark looking first winters
