NORTH RONALDSAY - 20th February

Still a blazing westerly wind hammering the island but there were some sunny spells in amongst the cloud and rain; walked around the sheltered eastern side where the highlight was definitely catching up with the adult male NORTHERN HARRIER which I flushed from the long grass at Brides Loch, it gave awesome views as it flew past but I had left my camera at home!

Other good birds included a juvenile Glaucous Gull and the drake Green-winged Teal both on Gretchen; totals of waders included 40 Purple Sandpipers and 51 Sanderling while ducks were highlighted by 13 Long-tailed Ducks and 7 Pintail.

Passerines were still limited to wintering birds including single Robin, Chaffinch and Reed Bunting, 7 Linnets, a Redwing and 23 Skylarks while other bits of note were counts of 243 Common Gulls and 2 Great-northern Divers.
