Another couple of tough mornings with the cold northerly wind still dominating although the first Lesser Whitethroat of the year was singing yesterday.
The wind dropped in the afternoon with even a few spots of rain (the rarest thing by far this month!) and after my enforced transport hiatus I was back in the field with a couple of hours spent at Loompit Lake which was full of migrants including 4 Whimbrel, my first Common Sandpiper of the year, single Sedge and Reed Warblers, my first Swift of the year with at least 200 Sand Martins, 40 Swallows and 20 House Martins, 6+ Chiffchaffs, 18+ Blackcap, 8+ Whitethroat, two singing Nightingales and 4 Yellow Wagtails.
