Didn’t
do very much with a very wet visit to Venus Pool on the way back from North
Wales on the 28th producing a Water Rail showing well under the
feeders, 4 Shelduck, 6 Pochard and 16 Teal.
A couple of walks round Benthall Pools then produced an epic 50 Canada Geese (by far the highest number
I’ve ever seen here!), the flock also contained 2 Greylag Geese (scarce here)
and a Canada x Greylag hybrid (a site first!); other birds included up to 28
Snipe, 10 Teal and a big Finch flock in rough fields near Benthall Hall
comprising c180 Chaffinches, c50 Yellowhammers, 20+ Reed Buntings and 9
Linnets.
