GEDSER - 13th September

Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday – calm, clear, sunny and warm with the easterly breeze picking up through the day so it was perhaps unsurprisingly a very similar morning’s ringing with 55 new birds caught, predominantly made up of 20 Robins and 11 Chiffchaffs along with ones and twos of other things such as Redstart, Garden Warbler, Sparrowhawk etc.   There was however, a bit more action overhead (at least for the first hour anyway!) with the first few Bramblings of the autumn among decent flocks of Chaffinches, Siskins, Tree Pipits, White Wagtails, Yellow Wagtails, Meadow Pipits and Swallows heading east into the wind.

There was also a bit more happening out at the point (1245-1445) with a steady passage of ducks comprising 180 Wigeon, 24 Shoveler, 72 Teal, 7 Pintail, 3 Red-breasted Merganser and 61 Common Scoter; raptors were slow with 10 Sparrowhawks, 2 Honey Buzzards, a Marsh Harrier and a Kestrel while other birds included 3 Arctic Skuas, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Sanderling, 13 Dunlin and 2 Oystercatchers.

For the second day in a row nothing jumped in front of my camera...so here's a picture of a Meerkat yawning!
