NORTH RONALDSAY - 15th November
After
rain had moved through first thing, it was a lovely calm day with some good
sunny spells, I walked round the northern census route where birds included 34
Snow Buntings (including 24 in off the sea at Bewan), 6 Redwings, 4 Robins, 10
Pintail, 10 Gadwall, a Peregrine, a Merlin and an extra Raven causing the
Beacon pair to get very upset! A little
drive round then produced a great count of 72 Moorhens (2 Garso, 2 Westness, 11
Ancum, 38 Moorhen Ditch, 22 Cauldhame Ditch and 7 Hooking) which was nearly an
island record count, a Chiffchaff at Brides, 2 Whooper Swans on Ancum and the Green-winged Teal relocated to Brides Loch.
