NORTH RONALDSAY - 12th May

Very sunny and very windy but it was from the east; opened a couple of nets at Holland first thing and caught single Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Whitethroat while there were 2 Blackcaps and a Goldfinch around the gardens as well.   I then nipped up to show someone the Red-winged Blackbird at Garso where there was also 40 Swallows and my overdue first House Martin of the year over the loch.

Walked the Obs census route late morning where birds included my first Spotted Flycatcher of the year which I caught in T5, another House Martin, a Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat, a couple of Phylloscs and a good selection of waders in Nouster at high tide including 10 Knot, 110 Turnstone (including a yellow flagged, Dutch individual), 30 Dunlin and some Sanderling.
