Venus Pool was relatively
productive, nothing new but some good counts including 36+ Bramblings in the top hedge with some of the males starting to
look very smart, 14 Great-crested Grebes
(13 on the fishing lake) and 36 Mute
Swans all being new high counts here for me! Other birds included 3 Goldeneye, 2 Pintail,
51 Shoveler, 11 Shelduck, 20 Tufted Ducks and a squealing Water Rail.
Brambling
Great-spotted Woodpecker
Great-crested Grebes are looking mighty fine now
Goldfinch
This Carrion Crow provided most of the entertainment today; trying to crack open a bone he found by repeatedly dropping it onto one of the shingle islands but after a while, frustrated that his plan was not working, he took his anger out on the nearest target which happened to be an unfortunate Moorhen! (That's how I read it anyway!)
