Arrived on Orkney
mid-morning in pretty nice conditions with a scan across the bay near the
Northlink Dock at Hatston producing decent views of 2 drake Surf Scoters flying around with a small group of Velvet Scoters
(regularly returning birds) while also here was a juvenile Glaucous Gull out on the fish farm with
a big flock of Herring Gulls and the usual good numbers of Slavonian Grebes,
Great-northern Divers, Long-tailed Ducks and Eiders. The rest of the day was quiet with 3 Scaup
on Loch of Tankerness (two drakes and a duck) and nice, close Long-tailed Ducks
yodelling away on the Peedie Sea.
