An even more amazing day with wall to wall sunshine and a
very gentle easterly breeze; a morning slog round the middle census route
produced the highlight of brilliant views of two small Water Rail chicks
running around next to the Ancum hide. Other birds included a Greenshank, 580 Golden
Plover, 12 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Black-tailed Godwit, 50 Dunlin, 3 Whimbrel and
3 Swifts.
Rushed
back up to the top end at lunchtime to have distant but decent views of two ORCAS heading off round the beacon and
out to sea including a huge bull. The
afternoon was quiet with a trickle of Whimbrel still heading south.
