GEDSER - 9th August

The strong south-westerlies persisted, again limiting both the nets we could open and the catch; the 16 new birds did however include a cracking 1st winter Barred Warbler – the first of the autumn, a Marsh Warbler and 2 Redstarts.

The wind continued through the day and a walk north along the coast produced another Osprey south at sea, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits also south, a Whimbrel and 4 Common Sandpipers on the beach, the juvenile Black Guillemot still just offshore and a few groups of Common and Arctic Terns going south.   Opened a few nets in the evening and managed another 3 Redstarts and another tiny fledgling Icterine Warbler while a group of 4 Grey Plovers went SE over the garden.

Redstarts - the last three aren't bad considering they were taken through the dirty living room window!
