2nd June

An horrendous morning with gale force SW winds and hard, driving rain but it brightened up by lunchtime and the wind dropped a bit allowing me to get out and about; there was a nice arrival of late migrants scattered across the area including 8 Red-backed Shrikes (in addition to the already settled pair), a good total of 28+ Spotted Flycatchers, 2 Icterine Warblers, 3 Cuckoos and a Redwing at Groda.

Other birds were limited though with the Barnacle Goose and 7 Wigeon still present, 14 Dunlin, a Whimbrel and a Common Sandpiper around the coast and the first White-tailed Eagle for a couple of weeks which flew past the lighthouse.

Managed to sneak up on this sleeping Red-breasted Merganser, he was a bit confused when I woke him up!

Good arrival of Spotted Flycatchers today
