SPURN - 7th July

There was some steady passage right through the day at Spurn with totals of 3,836 Swifts (we managed to catch one!) and 369 Sand Martins counted passing The Warren the main feature; waders were also evidently on the move with a trickle of Whimbrel, Curlew, Redshank and Dunlin coming in off and heading south out at sea (there was a Green Sandpiper on Borrow Pit yesterday afternoon).

Other little bits and bobs seen through the day included two adult Mediterranean Gulls, 4 Wigeon, 8 Teal, a Cuckoo, 85+ Little Terns kicking around Beacon Ponds (they have only just laid eggs!), four decent sized Avocet chicks still surviving, 8+ Little Egrets, a Barn Owl in Church Field and a few Sandwich Terns floating around including the first juvenile of the year.   A female Red-veined Darter at Holderness Field was also of note.

and a random Scorpion Fly, don't know if its Lesser or Greater!
